Geoff Chilton
Geoff Chilton is an award-winning professional artist based in Derbyshire. He spent over twenty years as a teacher in the north of England, Cambridgeshire and Lincoln before setting up his studio in Buxton. He is attracted to the wilder parts of Britain, particularly the landscape and changing light of the Highlands and visits Argyll and the islands frequently.
Geoff works primarily in oils, though has recently produced some pastel and mixed media works. He prefers to sketch outdoors, sometimes using colour, and then to bring these studies into the studio to work up into full-sized paintings. His work is concerned with the search for ‘truth’ in the landscape, an investigation of the soul and the emotions, a quest to find the essential character of a place, sometimes using more experimental techniques.
He has exhibited with the Royal Society of Marine Artists, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts of which he was a council member. His work is in private collections across the UK and as far away as Norway and Japan.
